Anyone interested in therapy pet activities is welcome to join our organization. But, we do ask that those individuals, wanting to participate in activities with their pet, become registered as a Delta Society® Pet Partners® team.

There are four steps to becoming a Delta Society registered Pet Partners Team:

Prerequisites: Your pet must be at least 1 year old and have lived with you for 6 months at the time you take the Delta Society Pet Partners evaluation. The person(handler) handling the pet must be at least 10 years old. Handlers younger than 16 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian and must have written permission to participate from a parent or guardian.

1) Complete the Pet Partners Team Training Course available via home study. You will be required to purchase the Pet Partners Team Training Student Manual.

2) Your pet must pass a general physical exam and have a current rabies immunization as prescribed by state law.

3) You and your pet must pass the Delta Society Pet Partners Team Evaluation. This evaluation consists of two parts - a skills test which shows whether the animal can be controlled by the handler and follows basic command and a aptitude test which helps to determine the most appropriate environment for you and your pet to visit.

Our organization schedules Delta Society Pet Partner evaluation testing throughout the year. Please contact us if you want to be notified when the next evaluation test date has been scheduled.

For handlers wanting to register with their pet dog, we encourage you to take dog obedience classes that are tailored to helping you and your dog pass the American Kennel Club Canine Good Citizen® (CGC) test. Although passing the CGC test is not a requirement, it is helpful as the Pet Partners evaluation test includes many of the same exercises. Classes and CGC testing are offered by several of the dog training facilities in the Fargo/Moorhead area.

4) Submit the required Pet Partners registration forms and appropriate fees to the Delta Society.

Please visit the Delta Society website for more information regarding the prerequisites and steps for becoming a registered Pet Partners team.
